“They value academics,” said Jefferson. “I don’t think they have a player at my position or a guy like me at Duke right now and I hope to bring an energy and a passion to the school and basketball team.”

Jefferson considered scholarship offers from NC State, Duke, Kentucky, Villanova, and Ohio State.

A huge get for Coach K.

Many believed he was definitely headed to NC State.

TLF Reasoning: the poster alludes to the vast conspiracy of the news media, UNC system, and (apparently) state and local government officials to brush all of this under the rug and get back to the business of cheating.

TLF Reasoning: I seriously hope I don’t need to spell this one out to you, but there is no chance the SEC has any interest in any ACC teams not based in Tallahassee, FL, Miami, FL (and that one is a stretch), or Clemson, SC.  UNC has no chance of getting an invite to the big leagues.

The BIG 10 has won the last three challenges (after losing the first 10) and they might have the number one team in the country [...]]]> ESPN, which now owns the rights to all ACC football and basketball games, released the schedule for the 2012 ACC/BIG 10 Challenge. It will start on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving.

The BIG 10 has won the last three challenges (after losing the first 10) and they might have the number one team in the country next season with Indiana and Cody Zeller.  Probable ACC favorite NC State will hit the road and travel to Ann Arbor to face Michigan, who will also have a good team coming back next season.

Last week the ACC signed a new tv deal with ESPN. The TV revenue for Florida State University from the deal will be about $17 million dollars a year. Although, Yahoo’s Dan Wetzel pointed out some “backloading” in the new TV deal. The additional 4 million dollars a year that each ACC school will be getting from the new contract doesnt kick in until 2021.

Meanwhile, the Big 12 is expected to sign a new deal that could get about $20 million each for each school. Maybe more if they had an addition like…Florida State. Also, FSU is looking at in state rival Florida and the money they are getting from the SEC.

The Orlando Sentinel reported that some estimate the recently expanded SEC’s new deal could earn each conference school as much as $25 million per year. Translation: Over the span of the ACC’s 15-year contract, FSU will earn $120 million less than the Florida Gators.

This led to FSU Board of Trustees Chairman Andy Haggard saying this to Warchant.com.

“With the SEC making the kind of money it does it’s time to act. You can’t sit back and be content in the ACC. This is a different time financially. This isn’t 10-15 years ago when money was rolling in.”

He did backtrack a bit though.

From SI.com. With the new deal, the ACC schools surrendered the rights to every football and men’s basketball game. (This is where Haggard was mistaken. He thought schools retained the right to sell some men’s basketball games, which would have benefitted the old-guard, basketball-first schools.)

Head Football Coach Jimbo Fisher has also agreed with Haggard comments about “doing whats best” (more money) for FSU.

I wouldn’t be surprised if FSU left for the Big 12. They see what is going on around them and the money that Florida is pulling in. The ACC is not a prominent football conference.  They added Pittsburgh and Syracuse, two basketball schools. Football is the big dog at FSU. The Big 12 lost Texas A&M and Missouri, imagine adding Florida State. Texas, OU, Ok State, and FSU.

All this rumor and talk has created infighting within FSU, of course. The annual ACC meetings are going on this week down in Florida.  Should be interesting.

The ACC’s Infractions and Penalties Committee met in April to discuss the UNC football violations from the NCAA, and decide if the ACC would add an additional $100,000 fine.  They needed a two-thirds majority vote from the other 11 ACC schools (UNC would not get a vote) to impose the $100,000 fine.

The vote was 7-4 in favor of the fine. One vote short.

So instead, they just issued a public reprimand of the university. The Infractions and Penalties Committee, which the ACC formed in 1990, is comprised athletic directors and faculty athletic representatives from each of the league’s 12 schools.

Now imagine you’re Clemson…

Back in 1982, the NCAA hits Clemson with a three-year probation, including a two-year ban from bowl or television appearances, for giving cash, cars and other gifts to its football players. Then the ACC decided to add another year of penalties. Do you know who made the presentation to the ACC to increase Clemson’s  punishment? Mr. John Swofford, who was AD of UNC at the time.

Former NFL quarterback Kurt Warner was asked on the NFL Network [...]]]> ESPN football analyst Meril Hodge is a dumbass. Why? Because Kurt Warner said he wouldn’t encourage his kids to play football. With the death of Junior Seau last week, and the Saints bountygate, head trauma and concussions in the NFL became a huge topic.

Former NFL quarterback Kurt Warner was asked on the NFL Network if he would allow his kids to play football.  He basically said if they want to play when they get older that is their choice but he prefer his sons not play football.  Sounds reasonable. Not to Hoge.

“I think it’s irresponsible and unacceptable,” Hoge said of Warner suggesting that football is a dangerous game for children. “He has thrown the game that has been so good to him under the bus. He sounds extremely uneducated.”

Uneducated? First off Kurt Warner was talking about his OWN KIDS! It is like a boxer telling his son, I got battered and bruised so you wont have to, so you can do something different with your life.

I love the game and I wouldn’t change a thing about my career, I continue to love it.  I continue to watch it, and am a big fan of the game. It’s different when you put on a parent’s hat.  And, yeah, I want my kids to play and I want them to be healthy and I’d love them to have a great long career whether that’s collegiate, whether that’s professional.  I’d love all that.  But as a parent I can’t avoid the fact that it’s a dangerous sport, and it’s a violent sport.

We all saw the last play of Warner’s NFL career, it was against the alleged bounty Saints players..

Warner has been on record as saying he didn’t think the Saints were playing dirty and the Packers were actually worse.

Hoge also said:

“The biggest problem in our society today with our youth is obesity,” Hoge said. “You will do more damage to your son or daughter by allowing them to sit on the couch, play XBox and eat a donut, health-wise, than you will ever do if you put them on a football field.

Meril, obesity is a problem, that can be fixed, brain damage can’t. One of Kurt Warner’s kids suffers from traumatic brain injury.  Again. Uneducated?

Hoge’s eight year NFL career ended in Chicago….because of too many concussions.
