Tiger Woods Yall!
Get ready for two weeks of “Tiger is back” talk leading up to the US Open.
NC State is still alive in baseball playoffs. They look to join Florida State as the only ACC schools in the Super Regionals. The Wolfpack will play Vanderbilt tonight for the chance to move on to face Florida. This will be their third meeting in the Raleigh Regional, the previous two games have both been decided by one run.
North Carolina, Georgia Tech, Clemson, Virginia and Miami were all eliminated. St. John’s won the Chapel Hill Regional. Here is the NCAA Baseball Bracket
NBA Playoffs have been awesome. Great game last night. Both series are tied at 2. All four teams have protected their home floor. Rondo called the Heat crybabies.

ORLY! Triangle schools bring in big bucks from basketball [wral.com]
UNC spent $6.51 million on basketball and had almost $20 million in revenue. That’s more than a 3-to-1 rate of return – tops in the ACC.
With a little under $4 million in spending and more than $10 million in revenue during the 2010 fiscal year, State makes $2.65 for every dollar it spends on men’s basketball.
Among the three schools, Duke made by far the most money from its men’s basketball team – almost $29 million in 2010. But the school also spent the most at just under $14 million, making about $2.09 for each dollar spent.
It was a pretty blah sports weekend from my seat, but there are still some things to discuss. Hit the jump for a few talking points. Continue reading Monday Morning Fodder — February 13, 2012
Wednesday, in Dubai, Tiger Woods teed it up with Lt. Col. Michael Rowells of the 401st Army Field Support Brigade stationed in Afghanistan. The 47 year old father of four from Mississippi might not have played well on the course, but he had a great time with Tiger and called him a “class act” after the round.
While I am unsure of who set this up, as the story mentions that Rowells beat out 16,000 others in a draw (whatever that means) it failed to mention the background of the pairing, it really does not matter. Tiger Woods, one round closer to being judged a good guy again? Probably not by most, but with a brother currently stationed in Afghanistan he is in my eyes. Of course, even before this, Tiger would still be my top choice to play a round with out of the PGA field as it is.
Oh, and remember our good buddy Alpha Wolf? He is now writing about golf, and doing so very well I might add. He had a take on this story yesterday.
…they’re done! The long national nightmare is over.
Today at the Bay County Circuit Court in Panama City, Tiger Woods and Elin Nordegren made their divorce official. Terms were not disclosed but we all know that Elin is getting seriously ppppaid, hey Elin if you’re not busy later, call me and now they can both move on. The couple will share parenting of their two kids.
So what is next for Tiger?
He is actually playing this weekend in The Barclays in New Jersey. Will his game bounce back? Will Pavin pick him for the Ryder Cup?
Tiger is now a free man, lookout Perkins Restaurants.
Sorry for the late post, and the lack of content last week guys. Real world and all that stuff. My thoughts on some random sports pieces after the jump. Continue reading Monday Morning Fodder
Phil “Freaking” Mickelson won his third green jacket yesterday in Augusta as he took home the Master’s once more. Anyone who was watching on Saturday knows that Phil may have had the best three hole stretch of golf in the history of ever. Or was it the luckiest three hole stretch of golf ever? Probably both, but no one should be trying to take anything away from what Phil did. Eagle. Eagle. Birdie. Three holes, five strokes up the leaderboard, and dude never looked back. Congrats to Phil, and best wishes to his family who we all know has been battling breast cancer (not only his wife, but his mother too). Continue reading Monday Morning Fodder — Golf Edition?
Here we sit on April 5th awaiting tonight’s NCAA Championship Game, and watching box scores across Major League Baseball as the non-Yankees and Red Sox start their seasons. I just took a deep breath, and enjoyed the smell of Spring in the air. Is this the best week of the year for sports? Final Four, MLB getting under way and then to finish it off with Tiger’s return to the Masters? You will be hard pressed to give me another week that matches up, but by all means please try! My thoughts on theses topics, Donovan McNabb being traded and Koach K to the Nets after the jump. Continue reading Monday Morning Fodder
I’m sure there is a lot of high-fiving and chest bumping going on around ESPN and CBS Sports. Tiger Woods has officially announced that he will make his return to golf at The Masters. After some speculation and rumor that he would play at Arnie’s tournament at Bay Hill as a tune up for Augusta, Tiger just said screw that (pun intended), I’ll be back at The Masters. Tiger said this in a statement.
“The Masters is where I won my first major and I view this tournament with great respect. After a long and necessary time away from the game, I feel like I’m ready to start my season at Augusta”.
He left out that TMZ and EXTRA wont be getting press passes.
ESPN will be airing the first two rounds of The Masters on April 8th and 9th. The final two rounds will be on CBS. So during the NCAA Tournament expect plenty of promotion of the “tradition unlike any other”, and dialogue like this:
Clark: Jim, the coach needs to call a timeout if they want to come back in this game.
Jim: Well Clark, speaking of coming back, Tiger Woods will be back at the Masters! Watch the final rounds of Tiger’s Return…right here….on CBS!
CBS expects this to be the biggest event ever! This is just back to back ratings gold for CBS, you know, after getting the NCAA to give Duke a bye to the Final Four.
As we awake from our slumber that was this past weekend, the question posed is did anything of interest happen? You betcha!! Tiger Woods, State, Duke and even UNC are on this weeks list of topics. Continue reading Monday Morning Fodder
