The ACC’s Big East Raid Redux

The Twitter started to blow up this evening when Pete Thamel of the NY Times reported that Syracuse and Pitt in Talks With A.C.C.

Whether or not anything comes from this is anyone’s guess, but at the very least it’s proving to everyone that ACC Commissioner Jim Swofford isn’t going to take this landscape shift to superconferences lying down.

In a dream scenario, the ACC takes Syracuse and Pitt to placate the basketball focused contingent of the ACC, then picks up Texas (no need to explain this move), and then effectively hold a beauty contest to select the best school from the horde that will likely be knocking on the door to be the 16th member of the new conference heavyweight on the block.

The short sighted will probably have a negative reaction to this, but the fact of the matter is that in today’s atmosphere of college athletics, it’s eat or be eaten.
