For the fifth time in the last two seasons, Florida State’s Michael Snaer has hit a game winning shot at the buzzer or in the final seconds of the game. His latest victim was Virginia last night.
FSU’s win helped out NC State in the ACC Tournament seeding department. NC State would clinch an opening-round bye with a win over FSU in Talahassee on Saturday.
They would be the No. 3 seed if Duke beats UNC on Saturday.
State would be the No. 4 seed with a win and a UNC win over Duke.
A State loss and a Virginia win over Maryland would put NCSU as the five seed and they would have to play on the first day of the ACC Tournament.
Bottom line, if the game is close at the end and FSU has the ball, expect Snaer to be triple teamed, or quadruple teamed.

What a weekend. The NCAA Championship is down to the Sweet Sixteen. Two ACC teams are still alive, North Carolina and North Carolina State, and advanced to the Midwest Regional in St. Louis.
UNC vs Ohio at 7:47
NC State vs Kansas at 10:17
The Tar Heels beat Creighton 87-73 but the big news was losing PG Kendall Marshall with a broken wrist on his right hand. Marshall had surgery today to have a screw inserted into his wrist. Obviously this is a huge blow to UNC’s title chances as I feel that Kendall Marshall is the best player on the team. He makes things go and makes it easier for his teammates. He even stayed in the game after he was injured, he said “I didn’t want my injury to get in the way of a game we wanted to win.” Great teammate, class act, hope he has a full recovery, but I dont expect to see him on the court again this season.
Justin Watts and Stillman White will have to handle point guard duties (maybe even Harrison Barnes). With Leslie McDonald and Dexter Strickland already sidelined, Marshall is the third UNC guard to go down with an injury this season.
On a brighter note, NC State. Lorenzo Brown hit some clutch free throws in the final ten seconds and the Wolfpack held off Georgetown 66-63. This is the Wolfpack’s first trip to the Sweet 16 since 2005. Ironically, that year they were also in the same bracket as UNC. NC State has gone from being the last team announced in the NCAA Tournament to the Sweet Sixteen. They are on a great run, I can almost hear Duran Duran playing again in Raleigh.
I dont think two teams from the triangle have met in the tournament. UNC and Duke made it to the Final Four in 1991, UNC lost to Roy and Kansas in the semis, and 2005 mentioned earlier was the closest calls.
The state of Ohio has four teams in the Sweet 16. Cincinnati knocked off ACC Champion Florida State 62-56. They Join Ohio, Ohio State and Xavier in the Sweet 16.
NFL NEWS: The Manning March Madness appears to be over. Reports are he has called John Elway to say he is headed to Denver. Elway and other Broncos officials were in Durham to watch Manning work out at Duke. What’s next for Tebow?
12:10 NC State vs Georgetown
5:15 North Carolina vs Creighton
9:40 Florida State vs Cincinnati
have at it…
The NCAA will announce the punishment for UNC football today at 3pm.
Great weekend for college basketball fans. Brackets are set, madness begins on Tuesday with the First Four, second round begins on Thursday.
Congratulations to Florida State, 2012 ACC Tournament Champions. First ever ACC Tournament win for the Seminoles. Championship game came down to the last possession as they held off UNC 85-82.
Some ACC Tournament history was made as Leonard Hamilton became the first African-American coach to win the ACC Tournament. Not a bad year for the ACC Coach of the Year. Seminoles beat both of “The Blues” twice and were undefeated in the state of North Carolina.
More about the Brackets after the jump…

North Carolina vs Florida State. 1PM
Probably one of the wildest Semi-final Saturdays in the ACC Tournament yesterday. Both games came down to the final play, both could of gone either way.
As for the UNC/NC State game, some of the officiating was as ugly as Roy’s blazer. Yes there were bad calls on both sides and various opinions both ways on the “charge/no charge”. I’m just not going to buy into the conspiracy of the outcome as a Hess tribute from the refs, and what ref called fouls on what player, and then this ref was part of Hess’ crew in the Gugliotta-Corchiani ejection game..therefore..the fix was in against State. That is crazy talk.
Anyway, Florida State and North Carolina play for the ACC Championship. We know what happened the last time these two met, a FSU Beatdown of the Tar Heels. Is UNC out for revenge? FSU is looking for their first ever ACC Tournament Championship.
Then later this afternoon the brackets will be announced for the NCAA Tournament. I dont think there should be any hand-wringing for NC State, most from what I have read and heard say the Wolfpack is in. Which would just show how far Gottfried has brought this team in his first year. He has done a great job with essentially the same players from last year.
My predictions: UNC wins close game over FSU
for the NCAA’s. Five teams from the ACC.
UNC will get a #1 seed. Duke a #2 seed. FSU, 3 or 4 seed. NC State, 9 or 10 seed. UVa, 11 seed.
1pm: North Carolina vs NC State
3pm: Duke vs Florida State
State playing for their NCAAT bid. I think they are in win or lose anyway. UNC a possible Number 1 seed. Can UNC beat them for the third time this year? WristWatch? Will Henson play, and if so how much? Should be interesting.
Update: Looks like Henson is going to sit this game out.
Duke and FSU rubber match. Should also be interesting.
I dont know what some teams were playing yesterday, but it wasnt basketball, it was ugly. Looking at you especially Georgia Tech, 36 points?!? Fewest points EVER at the ACC Tournament during the shot clock era. Way to represent the host city.
Today’s lineup should be better.
12 Noon: North Carolina vs Maryland
2PM: Virginia vs NC State
7PM: Duke vs Virginia Tech
9PM: Florida State vs Miami
Duke and North Carolina, Round 2. Saturday night at 7pm in Durham.
Another must win for NC State at Virginia Tech. Sunday at 6pm.
FSU’s Michael Snaer hit another buzzer beater as the Seminoles secured the #3 spot in the ACC with a win over Virginia
Final weekend of the regular season for the ACC in college basketball. ACC Tournament kicks off next Thursday.
Smaller conference tournaments are already underway.
It is Monday, so it is time to look at the weekend that was. Huge weekend in the ACC, with all 12 teams taking the floor, and only one game being a blowout while two went to overtime. Hit the jump for more. Continue reading Monday Morning Fodder — February 27, 2012
