Saturday, September 20, 2014—a date which will live in infamy—the University of North Carolina’s football program was suddenly and deliberately destroyed by the PURPLE PAIN TRAIN of THE EAST CAROLINA PIRATES.
Surviving fans who were able to escape were detoured to Route 70 back to Chapel Hill.
It maybe just fall ball but Duke has had a November to remember. In the past month Duke has beat defending national champ and #3 Kentucky, rolled over Minnesota, withstood VCU, battled and defeated #2 and 2012 final four contender Louisville 4 Atlantis and administered a comeback victory over #4 and 2012 final four contender Ohio State in front of a wild Cameron Indoor stadium last night. That’s three ranked teams in the top five and three teams who advanced to last year’s final four.
Last night Duke was exactly where they were last year coming off the Maui Invitational with a game against a ranked Ohio State. The difference this year is Duke’s “togetherness”. Call it addition by the subtraction of Austin Rivers. AR was a great talent and could take over games but there is a sense from this Duke team that it was a selfish talent and not one that made the team better.
This year’s team is flat out better. Quinn Cook is coming of age. Rasheed Sulaimon is a dynamic freshman who looks much more poised than Rivers did at this point. Couple those two with solid senor leadership in Curry, Kelly and the new and improved Mason Plumlee and you have the makings of a national title contender.
Yeah, it’s just a November reign but in the coming months Duke will be bringing a brand of basketball that it’s hard to hold a candle to.
Isn’t it ironic, don’t you think?
Episode: “A Difficult Day”
Matt Kupec, former star UNC QB now chief fundraiser resigns. Tami Hansbrough, mom of Tyler Hanbrough who earns $95,000 annually at UNC has been placed on administrative leave as the investigation continues. She has not released a statement. Hansbrough is divorced and is in a relationship with Kupec who had separated from his wife in 2009. Kupec and Tami Hansbrough were in a relationship and took personal trips that appear to include destinations where Ben Hansbrough was playing as a member of Notre Dame’s basketball team.
What will come from this investigation?? Will Tami and Matt’s love last??? Will Victor Newman buy out the Chancellor’s contract???? Stay tuned! And until next time it’s As The Hill Turns …
What happened to the lost colony of UNC walk-ons? One theory suggests that the walk-ons joined the
seminal Seminole tribe and settled in Tallahassee. Others believe that they died from embarrassment during one of the worst defeats in UNC history. Some say that they tried to return to Chapel Hill and were lost in a sea of FSU fans. Perhaps they moved north to join the real Carolina in Columbia, SC or became ball boys responsible for supplying towels and water for Deivida Dulkys. One day someone may pick up the trail of the lost colony of UNC walk-ons and solve the mystery.
Mike Krzyzewski became Division one’s all-time winningest coach when Duke beat Michigan State 74-69 on Tuesday night at Madison Square Garden. But you already knew that. So for entertainment purposes I posted a slightly unedited text message conversation I had during the game with one of my best friends who happens to be a Tar Heel .
Without further ado:
Yow can’t stand it, she knows Gary Planned it! Wow. This is just all too good. After introducing Mark Gottfried as NC State’s new men’s basketball coach on Tuesday, Debbie Yow accused Gary Williams of interfering with the search. Now I had heard some rumblings about this but I was shocked that Yow came right out and said it publicly. I believe it was Jerrod Brooks who asked the question to Yow about being hard to work with and Yow’s response was:
“I don’t have a reputation across all men’s basketball of being difficult to work with. I have a reputation of not getting along with Gary Williams, who has tried to sabotage the search. Come on. We all know that, okay?” Yow said. “It’s not a reputation, its Gary Williams out there doing his thing.”
Shots fired! But who really shot first? It’s widely known that Debbie Yow and Gary Williams had a strained relationship while she was the AD at Maryland. From what I understand she tried to get Williams bought out for the handling of a former recruit. It’s also known tensions rose within the athletic dept. over a decline in revenue sports as she attempted the same buy out move on Ralph Friiedgen.
Either way Gary Williams shot back:
“I haven’t talked to anyone — coach or athletic director — connected to the N.C. State search. I don’t have any interest in the N.C. State search, since I’m coaching at Maryland and working hard to run our program. Anyone who says I’ve had contact with a prospective coach or athletic director regarding this search isn’t being truthful.”
What happens next? Will Debbie Yow unleash Gregg Doyle on Gary Williams? It seems Doyle is already off the chain. But word on the tweet is there may be an article coming to a medium near you detailing Gary’s dirty deeds.
What could it be, it’s a mirage? Gary’s scheming on the Pack – that’s sabotage!
