Three days in a row? Are you kidding me? Nope. It might be short. It might not be sweet. Here it is nonetheless.
The US soccer team has officially qualified for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil after blanking Mexico 2 – 0 last night. The US, coming off it’s first loss in 13 games after getting beat by Costa Rica on Friday, is looking good headed into next year’s tourney. This could be the best US team ever. Expect lots of hype followed by a quick exit as per usual.
Eamonn Brennan has been going through all of the conferences breaking down their OOC schedules. In the ACC, November 12th will be a big day, as Duke takes on Kansas and State takes on Cincy. The game everyone wants to circle, however, comes on December 14th when Carolina takes on Kentucky. Will
Barnes (I’m rusty, alright?) Hairston be on the floor by then? UNC fan better hope so.
This weekend everyone will be watching Alabama take on Texas A&M. One bar in Alabama has taken the time to make a piñata in the shape of A&M QB Johnny Manziel. Looks like they plan on letting people whack at it tonight. While I do not like Manziel one single bit, I will never support anything where someone’s likeness is used in this manner. Is it over the top, or just good fun? Either way, I hope someone on the Tide rolls over him and that he has a horrendous day on the field.
The Atlanta Braves’ magic number is down to seven. In the process, Craig Kimbrel has notched 35 straight saves. Kimbrel has 46 total saves on the season, and an amazing ERA of 0.91. Opponents are batting a paltry .159 against him, and his WHIP stands at 0.84. The Braves have issues though, and hopefully they get healthy before October rolls around. Just last night the good Upton bruised his knee when he fouled a ball off of it. Jason Heyward is on his way back from a broken jaw. Without these guys at 100%, it could be an early exit once again for the Bravos.
That is it for today, folks.
