pretty sure the buzzer beater was by some kid named miller. just sayin’…

Good thing it is a home game for Dook. That way, SETH CURRY WON’T HAVE TO TRAVEL THAT FAR again to get to the game.

I’m guessing dook is the Nazis?

  • ^I thought that was obvious: K would look good in a brown shirt in the Afrika Korp

I correctly had Duke winning the first game. I’ve got UNC winning this one, enjoy suckas.

  • avatar Heels Perspective

Hey Durham Dave, you were making some comments about Dook relying on the “3″. It’s obvious, Dook is NOT a balanced team.

ASS whupping. Got anything TWO HATS?

  • avatar smallandpettypat

And all is right with the world. Go Heels.

  • TMK… any stock tips?
Duck a buncha Fookies- Go Heels!

Congrats to the Heels on an impressive win — the better team played the better game and won. Zeller is clearly ACC POY — but it will probably go to Barnes which is a joke. The guy isn’t even POY on his own team. Zeller should get it.

ACC Tourney prediction: see you next Sunday.

    Hey HP, shove it.
I never claimed they were a “balanced” team. I said that people who constantly harp on Duke’s 3point shooting act as though that style is somehow an illegitimate way to win games. You denied that’s what you were trying to say then and now you repeat it. Whatever floats your boat. A team that shoots 40% from the field at home and misses 30 shots is not going to win regardless of where the shots come from.

2)In the first game — the one your guys LOST remember? Duke missed 20 3 point shot attempts. In this one they missed 15. So it was the missed threes genius? Really?

  • avatar smallandpettypat

I don’t want to put words in anyone’s mouth, but I think when people say “live by the 3, die by the 3″ they mean that dook relies so heavily on the 3ball that, most often, when it isn’t falling they are somewhat doomed because they don’t have much of a back up plan. I’m pretty sure no one thinks it’s an illegitimate way to win games, just that it is a very risky “game plan”.

  • Congrats UNC fans. Better team won. Duke was brick city last night.

  • avatar Nate

“Duke missed 20 3 point shot attempts. In this one they missed 15. So it was the missed threes genius? Really?”

Uhh, yes that is definitely part of it. In the first game they made 14 3s, last night only 6.

“if we’re not hitting them (3 pointers), we have a much greater chance to lose.” -Coach K.

Its not illegitimate, just a fact of this years team.

Also DDave, no way at all Barnes is getting ACC POY, Uts Zeller.

  • avatar Nate

    …and also,

    SCOREBOARD!!!
How did you enjoy that complete, total arse whoopin at home Dookies? Never trailed the entire game, another senior night ruined by UNC. HA! and HA!

Five out of last seven wins at Hansbrah Indoor!
Biggest halftime deficit EVER! Biggest loss at home since 1989. Enjoyed every minute.

    OWNED!! Go Heels.

  • Dave, as Nate pointed out, the number of made 3 pointers is more important than the number missed.

There aren’t many teams with the athletes needed to take the 3 away from Duke, but those that can will beat Duke. That’s what UNC did last night. For most teams, you have to hope that Duke helps you by missing some open 3′s. From the looks of it, UNC didn’t give Duke very many open 3′s.

  • avatar DUrhamDave

It wasn’t the missed threes guys, it just wasn’t. Look at the shot chart from the game. Duke missed 9(!) layups and 3 dunks. Carolina and Duke took nearly the same number of outside shots and Carolina only made three more jumpers than Duke. The dominance was inside the paint Carolina was 19 for 25 on lay ups/dunks while Duke was 11 of 23. For those of you keeping score at home that’s a sixteen point advantage from close in. Add to that 12 missed free throws (Duke shot 42%) and there’s your blow out. If Duke shoots their normal percentage from 3 they make six count em six more points and still lose by 12.

  • avatar tarheelmax

Dave – I think you are actually supporting the “live by the three, die by the three argument”

Since the team wasn’t making threes and/or the 3 point line was fairly well defended by UNC, they were in trouble. Because they don’t have a balanced offense that can help them out.

In other words, they are going to end up missing 9 layups and 3 dunks because the team is not used to battling in the paint.

  • avatar Todd

From an outsiders perspective…and I missed the first half so I didn’t get to see how dominate UNC was…but Duke did a pretty decent job of coming back without relying on the 3-ball.

Either way…I hate to give credit to either team, but I got to give credit to Dukefan. their team came out of the locker room with an embarassing score and they kept that barn live and loud and it helped the hometeam. It kept them “in” the game as much as a team down 24 could be. props on that.

  • avatar Nate

    ^
Yet still lost by 18 points.

  • avatar DUrhamDave

I just don’t see it. They did not take fewer threes than they normally do and they did not shout a drastically lower percentage from three either. The anomalous case was probably the win in Chapel Hill where they took a lot more threes than they usually do. It really doesn’t matter much as they got housed in their own barn by a superior team. They shot poorly to be sure, but they are not a great shooting team percentage wise to begin with.

Here’s an idea. Why not praise the guys who actually won the gsme. If UNX defends like they did in this game, and if Marshall is able to be both a scorer (20 pts) AND a distributor (10 assists) they will go really far.

  • ^ my guess (and hope) is the way the Heels played @ UNC-R & Dook may well be how the play thru tourney season. They looked like talented guys playing at a good level of confidence and team rhythm.

  • avatar Todd

    Nate dawg…..be a gracious winner….

    Gorsk-

I was amazed at UNC’s half-court offense in the last game against NCSU, but I didn’t see that in the second half against Duke and I think that is part of what let Duke back in the game. In the second half, UNC didn’t seem to be running set plays or even doing great off the ball movement. They tried to keep the pace up (which is good because you dont’ want to let off against any team esp a rival), but that led to holding the ball too long or poor shot selection with crazy drives rather than pick and rolls, etc. Maybe I’m smoking something, but if UNC put together the Defense they played agaisnt Duke…and the halfcourt offense against NCSU…that’s a tough team to beat.

  • avatar tarheelmax

^ I don’t think anybody beats that team. Also, since you missed it, that team you are describing was the team from the first half of the dook game.

  • avatar smallandpettypat

@Todd, dook might have gotten within 10 points in the second half, but they were never, not for one minute, in that game.

  • avatar Nate

Todd, I am a gracious winner. Completely

But I can gloat a bit too. They just went to their house after hearing about and seeing Rivers shot played on a constant loop for the last month, and spanked them by 18 points. Duke is a top ten team and UNC waxed them on their own Kourt.

and as Pat said, they were never in that game. After the first few minutes it was 24-5. I knew Duke would make a run, but UNC always countered with huge shots and plays.

  • avatar Todd

    Nate-

Point taken especially considering some Dukefan’s tendency to pile on after the fact…

    Pat-

Maybe “back in the game” was a bit generous, but a 12-3 run (I think that was what Duke had) is worth mentioning.

No stock tips, but remember I said about 6 weeks back that UNC won’t be winning the NCAA’s this year!
