NC State will be trying to get their first win in Chapel Hill since 2003. They are one victory away from matching their total in ACC play from last season, and are currently on a three game winning streak.

Duke’s perimeter D is not good. Curry, Dawkins and Rivers are terrible defenders, just terrible. I’ll take the road win though. MP2 looked very impressive. MP1 wasn’t bad either.
ECU and Greenville is a nice place with nice folks. The college and town are growing every year. Football is fun and has just as much clout has NCSU and UNC does in football. And once there is no such thing as AQ status, watch out. Baseball is consistently strong but Basketball is still a work in progress. I thought Lebo (UNC guy) had the Pirates balling for hot minute but they have digressed of late. I guess UNC guys just can’t get it done be it East or West (Bobcats=worst record in the NBA) of Chapel Hill.

I was away from home for most of the day yesterday and missed this thread. I hate that I missed it, because I would have posted the following yesterday prior to the game:

It is kinda funny. Watching that debacle go down, it is clear that this game means way more to UNC-CH than it does to NCSU. Way more. If they played every team the way they play NC State they would never lose. State is like their Super Bowl, and they treat it as such. That said, I think that State treats it the same, but they just do not have the talent in the paint to contend.
Henson and Zellar are clearly unstoppable when they play up to their abilities. At 6’11″ and 7′ respectively, Leslie, at 6’8″ is just over matched. It is not so much that they are “in his head”, although there is definitely something to that, but that they are just so much taller than he is that he can’t get a shot off. Until State gets a true center that is at least close to 7′ tall, this will be lather, rinse and repeat.
Stillman White drained one three on a wide open attempt. Good for him (no really, good for him).
Let me tell you, as a State fan, not much angers me more than games like last night. Who angers me I’m just not quite sure (except when I see Strickland and the others laughing it up after Marshall hits a three, that pisses me off) as I get mad at State for losing some composure and I get mad at the Heels for whooping State’s asses and I get mad at the refs (to a degree) because it just doesn’t seem possible that Zeller and Henson can pull down 27 boards and block 6 shots while dominating the paint but yet only commit two fouls between them all night. That does not mean that they committed more fouls than were called, it just seems that way when watching them physically dominate like that all game. When they are so much bigger than the competition, though, it is understandable how it happens, and it is also understandable that the Pack players have to foul to try to compete down low.
So congrats to the gracious Heels fans. The rest of the Heels fans can go kill themselves. Yeah, I’m bitter and I know you love it.

Exactly. Never argued that for a second. If UNC could muster that type of effort (or hell…even 85% of that effort) every game, they’d be undefeated.
Now, you can come up with whatever reason you want, but ever since Roy got to UNC, the State games have pretty much been in the top 3 for each season as far as UNC’s effort and defensive intensity.
State doesn’t have the frontcourt players to deal with Henson and Zeller (few teams do)…especially when they are playing motivated basketball. And, State is not good enough in the backcourt to overcome the lack of frountcourt play.
You didn’t see me around here talking smack about State winning. There’s a reason. I didn’t think they would.
The rivalry w/ State is a big deal to Roy because it was a big deal to him in HS and college. The UNC-NCSU deal was much bigger/more important during that time (mid-60′s to mid-70′s) than UNC-Dook was. So he tries to get the kids fired up for this game even if UNC-Raleigh isn’t up to the challenge.
seriously, if UNC had the effort they had vs State against FSU it would have been a 1-3 point coinflip game. FSU played amazingly well that night.

I knew that UNC was likely to give their best effort, so I didn’t think NCSU had much of a chance.

I just disagree with this. UNX put forth more effort against the Wolp Fack than they did in the FSU game, but I don’t think the effort was any different than the MSU, Wisconsin, or Kentucky games.
We’ll just have to disagree.
I haven’t watched whole UNC games, but I’ve seen parts of most of them. In every one, I’ve noticed that they were sort of lackadaisical at times.
I’ve almost mentioned it here several times, but I stopped….because I know what happens when a State fan gives any criticism at all about UNC basketball.
