Calvin Leslie Suspended Three Games

NC State sophomore Calvin Leslie has been suspened for the first three games of the season for violating NCAA rules.  Leslie has been tabbed for “accepting impermissible benefits” for an estimated total of $410.  So what did he get for that cash value?  Apparently dude’s borrowed a car from a friend, who is a State grad, for a few days after his was damaged in an accident back in May. The NCAA placed a $150 value on this violation, stating the rental car charges he would have paid.

The other $260 stems from the same guy paying for an apartment application fee for Leslie’s half brother.

On the face neither of these violations seem worth anyone’s time, and rather petty.  Since it was the same guy each time, it gets a little sketchy.  What makes it even more sketchy is the fact that there is a third violation in association with this guy.

The NCAA is also looking into impermissible benefits doled out to a former Pack player.  What sport said player participated in has yet to be revealed, due to the ongoing investigation.  From what I have been told, it appears that it is most likely another basketball player, but one who did not remain with the team after Lowe was fired.  You can guess who that is, and with the $1,349 in benefits he is alleged to have received, it is no wonder he wound up where he did.

    There, that felt better.

In other news, there is a post on SFN that hit my giggle button. This guy had me laughing from the first three words. I don’t want to deny this author the full weight of his genius, so I quote in full. Offered with much respect and without further comment:

    Dr. Yow

Against all logic, my wife and I retain our LTRs despite not having lived in Raleigh since 2004 (stops in TN, FL, and now CT). We have friends that buy the tickets, and we typically return to NC for one game each year. I graduated in ’98 and she in ’99, and we have been in the Wolfpack Club since we entered the workforce.

If a change is not made with this football staff, I cannot justify continuing to subsidize the program.

I contemplated taking my six year old boy to see the Pack play Boston College this weekend, as we are just a short drive from Chestnut Hill. In retrospect, I’m glad my prescient vision of yet another poor performance (with so much on the line) persuaded me to take him hiking instead. It was a gorgeous day in New England.

It stinks to have such little faith in our program. Today i felt like I was depriving my child of the joys of watching great, spirited college sports, just as I was able to enjoy as a youngster growing up in Lexington, Va and Clemson, SC. But I just could not stand the thought of watching us mail in another terrible effort, as has been so routine the last five years.

I have confidence you will fix this mess. Thanks for all you are doing

Yeah J, that’s not really funny. Well-written and sardonic, sure, but not worth a complete quotation. Sorry. Don’t get pissed.

The Leslie thing is going to be hilarious to watch unfold. It always starts as just one small corner of the iceberg revealing itself and then …

I don’t want that to be the case but let’s not kid ourselves, it’s become way too common. It’s good that State’s compliance folks found it out before Twitter and it “seems” to be cut & dry. But who knows?

The other one, the $1,000 or whatever, isn’t good. That’s when you get slapped around. State fans, of which I am one, have no choice but to bend over, much to UNC-Chapel Hill fans liking, and just take it, because here it comes.

It’s funny b/c he means every word of it. He’s not trying to entertain anybody, he’s trying to communicate pain. Sincere, hilarious human suffering.

this kid is overrated, anyways… he won’t have any effect on State’s NIT bid…
