Three Reasons Why State WILL Beat Clemson

(This post originally appeared at YetAnotherNCStateSportsBlog.blogspot.com)

Call me crazy, but here are three reasons why State will win tomorrow:

1. Kyle Parker will have a bad game: Yeah, he’s good. He’s also a freshman, and though he threw four TDs against FSU last weekend, he managed to only toss one score against two picks against lowly Coastal Carolina. So if you’re a believer in the on-again, off-again theory, tomorrow would fall in the “off-again” portion of the rotation.

2. State’s defense will play inspired football: If I didn’t lose you at the title of the post or during point #1, I’m probably going to lose you here. Yes, I think State’s defense will rise to the occasion and play the kind of defensive football needed to win. What does that mean, specifically? It doesn’t mean State will completely shut down the Tigers, but I think the Pack will generate a turnover or two and slow C.J. Spiller down enough to limit him to a merely awesome 150ish yards. The probable return of Ray Michel to the interior of State’s linebacking corps will bolster State’s defensive attack. The Pack won’t shut out the Tigers, but they’ll build upon holding the Terrapins to 17 offensive points last week to limit the Tigers to 17-24 points. That’ll be good enough to win.

3. Frankly, this is just what happens in the ACC: Clemson has everything to play for; State has virtually nothing to play for. In the ACC, that’s a recipe for an upset if there ever was one. In a noon game, in Raleigh, and despite the fact that everything logically points to Clemson taking care of business, I think this is the perfect game for ACC teams to do what ACC teams do: exactly what you don’t expect.

What’s funny is I don’t anybody who isn’t picking State in this one.

I agree. It would not shock me at all for State to win this one. In fact, I’ll give a “guaranteed pick”: Pack 27, Clemmons 24.

  • NCSU over Clemson is the “chic” upset pick of the week. Everyone who wants to look smart by picking an upset are jumping on this game.

  • I hope that this is more than wishful thinking.

State has the offense to win, but their defense will have to play like it hasn’t in a very long time.

What worries me are special teams. Spot Clemson field position after punts and kickoffs and today could be a very long day indeed for Wolfpack fans.

    Reasons 4 & 5:
Pigs were flying when I woke this morning and they are currently having a snowball fight in hell.

That being said, I expect NXSU to win today because Clemson can’t help but lose games they need to win.

Since this is the “Fantasy Island” post, here is mine…
Three Reasons the Redskins WILL win the Super Bowl..
    1. THEY’RE DUE.. The Redskins haven’t been to the Super Bowl or the NFC Championship Game for that matter since 1991. That’s an 18 year drought.
    2. The Redskins offense will score more than 17 points a game the rest of the season. What do I base this on other than hope, I don’t know, but some State fan said that State’s defense can beat the odds, so maybe the Redskins offense can “magically” find some offensive linemen and the Redskins find a great quarterback that isn’t currently on their roster.
    3. And this is what happens in the NFL. A team comes out of nowhere with a 2-6 record, defies all logic and goes on a “run” to win the Super Bowl. It’s happened a lot over the years. Well, it hasn’t, but if State fans can dream can’t us Skins fans dream too????
